I was delighted when Michaels asked me to Craft It Forward for Random Acts of Kindness Week. The possibilites are endless to help share kindness. The most important thing, is to do something . It is easy to become overwhelmed by the choices of what to do or the worry of knowing if it will matter. I have learned though, when done with a loving heart, it all matters no matter how big or small! When we are kind it creates a beautiful ripple effect and causes others to be kind.

My coloring book loving daughter thought it would be kind to send coloring books and crayons to the hospital. I first made a call to the hospital to make sure that coloring books would be needed and appreciated. The nurse that answered the phone was overjoyedl

Michaels had everything I needed to make this Random Act of Kindness happen.  We purschased crayons, coloring books and felt to make pouches for the crayons.

The crayons needed a pouch to make them extra special and to show our love!  These simple  little pouches would make a great sewing project for kids!

One piece of felt made two holders. Cut felt in half lengthwise. Cut hearts to embellish the fronts.

Sew around the heart on the bottom front.

Flip felt over and fold up bottom edge (heart at the top). Use the crayon as a guide to know how far to fold. Sew along each side. Reinforce at the tops by stitching back and forth.

If desired, use pinking shears to give the sides a fancy edge.

Slip in a box of crayons and you have a handy little pouch.

Now pass it forward!

Michaels is participating in Random Acts of Kindness Week, Feb. 11-17, by asking customers to share their own random acts of kindness on the Michaels Facebook page and to use the hashtag #RAOKDIY when sharing on Twitter and Instagram.

In celebration of the holiday on Sunday, Feb. 17, Michaels hopes to inspire customers to participate by giving away more than $100,000 in gift cards at its nearly 1,100 U.S. and Canada stores. Gift card recipients will be encouraged to “craft it forward” and exhibit their own random act of kindness towards another person.

If you want to “craft it forward” you will  find inspiration for Random Acts of Kindness projects to give to others on the Michaels Random Acts of Crafting Pinterest board

We couldn’t stop with just the coloring books and decided to take some craft supplies to The Ronald McDonald House too!

Thanks Michaels for providing me a gift card so I could craft it forward!
